Apple purée

Apples are a great first taste for babies as they are sweet and light, making them easy to digest. The best apples to use are Braeburn, Sweet Delicious Red Delicious. If you want to give your purée an extra taste, you could add a little cinnamon to give it some warmth.  This recipe is suitable for 4 months+ and is a great option for spoon fed weaning.

Makes approximately 3 portions. Suitable for freezing.

Apple purée

Ingredients

  • 1 apple
  • Breast or formula milk

Method

Peel and chop the apple into slices, add a splash of water to the pan then boil for 4-5 minutes until really soft.

Drain and place into a baby blender. Apples are very watery but if you thicken slightly, add 2-3 teaspoons of breast or formula milk.

Blitz into a smooth purée adding more milk if required.

Check the temperature of the purée against your lip before feeding your baby.

Apple purée is delicious hot or cold.
